Since most T. vaginalis infections are asymptomatic, the exact incubation period is unknown. The estimated incubation period is 5-28 days.

Two types of Trichomonas tests are available: swab and urine tests.
Both types of trichomoniasis tests (swab and urine) are NAAT (Nucleic Acid Amplification Tests) PCR tests. However, the test accuracy is higher for swab (96%) than for urine (64%-75%).
