The doctor you meet is the doctor who treats you
I'm Dr. Slava Fuzayloff, and I've practiced medicine for 25 years. You can order an STD test online and never meet the doctor behind it.
Here, you meet me. You won't be handed to a nurse practitioner, a physician assistant or a different doctor every time.
The person who examines you is the person who reads your results, explains them and prescribes your treatment. If you have a question a week later, you're asking the doctor who knows your case.
My training, and what it means for you
Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
A DO is a fully licensed physician, with the same right to diagnose and prescribe as an MD. Osteopathic training adds a focus on the whole person, not just the symptom in front of you.
Board-certified in internal medicine
Internal medicine is the specialty of adult medicine. Internal medicine doctors test for and treat STDs as part of adult care, so for most infections you don't need a separate specialist.
Board certification means I passed the specialty's board exam, set by the American Board of Internal Medicine. You don't have to take my word for it: check my certification yourself.
Nine years as a hospitalist
For nine years, I also worked as a hospital doctor at Lawrence Hospital, St. John's Hospital and New York Hospital of Queens, caring for some of the most complex patients in the hospital. That work taught me to notice when something besides an STD is going on.
In private practice since 2006
For 20 years, my work has been seeing patients one at a time, in my own office in Midtown Manhattan.

Your records are protected under HIPAA, the federal medical privacy law.
No judgment
I've heard every question there is. Nothing you tell me will surprise me, and nothing you ask is a silly question.
What I tell nervous patients
Most people who come in are more worried than they need to be. I tell them two things.
First, HIV from a single encounter is uncommon: even when a partner has HIV, the risk from one act of vaginal sex is less than 1 in 1,000.
Second, the most common STDs (chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and trichomoniasis) are cured with medicine. The others, like herpes, can be treated and kept under control.
Asking for more tests is fine
I'll tell you which tests your situation calls for and why. If you want more for peace of mind, I'll order them. You won't be lectured for asking.
What testing involves
Most tests are a urine sample, a swab, a finger prick or a small blood draw.
Treatment before you leave
If a rapid test is positive, I can prescribe treatment at the same visit. HIV and hepatitis C are diagnosed here, and I refer you to a specialist for treatment.
What it costs
Rapid tests are priced per test or as a combination. For lab tests, the office visit is $90 if you pay yourself, or billed to your insurance if we take your plan. If you'd rather keep testing off your insurance, you can pay yourself.
