We do not accept health insurance for rapid testing. Tests start at $70 with no office visit fee, and you can walk in weekdays until 6:30 PM or Saturdays until 3:30 PM.

Insurance does not cover these tests. Each price below is the full cost of the test. You pay at the office, and we add no office visit fee.

The $90 rapid HIV test is the whole price. It is not the $90 office visit fee we charge for some lab-testing visits.
Rapid chlamydia and gonorrhea testing uses urine or a genital swab. A throat or rectal test needs a lab.

Same-Day STD Testing: How the Visit Works

If a test is positive, the doctor goes over your result and next steps before you leave.
If a Rapid Test Is Positive
- Chlamydia, trichomoniasis or BV
- The doctor sends a prescription to your pharmacy.
- Gonorrhea
- You get an antibiotic shot (ceftriaxone) in the office for $60.
- HIV or syphilis
- A lab has to confirm a positive rapid result. We draw blood and send it to the lab, which bills you directly. Results take 5–7 days, because the confirmation test takes longer. You can also get the confirmation test at the Chelsea Sexual Health Clinic, which offers low- to no-cost testing.
For syphilis, you choose whether to start medication at the visit or after the lab result. For HIV, the doctor refers you for treatment.
Prescriptions come with no extra office charge.
A Doctor Reads Every Result
Many clinics staff STD testing with physician assistants or nurse practitioners. Here, a doctor sees every patient. With rapid testing that matters: the person who reads your result is the one who explains it and writes your treatment, in the same visit.

When a Lab Test Is the Better Choice
A rapid test is fast, but it doesn't cover everything. Choose a lab test if you:
- want a full STD panel (one visit that tests for many STDs)
- need a throat or rectal test for chlamydia or gonorrhea
- want testing for herpes or hepatitis
- want to use your health insurance
Your insurance covers lab testing at the lab your insurance works with, Northwell or Quest. The office visit is $90 if we don't take your insurance or you have none. With insurance, your plan covers the testing. Without it, the lab bills you for the tests. See our self-pay prices.
Lab results take 1–2 days for blood tests and 3–5 days for urine and swab tests.

Rapid STD Testing FAQ
Is STD testing free in NY?
Yes. The NYC Health Department runs sexual health clinics with low- to no-cost testing. We're a private clinic, so you pay for your test. In return, you get fast STD testing with a doctor: results come back in 30 minutes or less, you can often start treatment the same visit, and we're open weekday evenings and Saturdays.
Are rapid STD tests accurate?
Yes. We use FDA-approved rapid tests, and rapid chlamydia and gonorrhea tests are about as accurate as lab tests. A positive rapid HIV or syphilis result needs a lab test to confirm it (see “If a Rapid Test Is Positive”). Timing matters too: a finger-prick HIV test usually finds HIV 18 to 90 days after exposure, so testing too soon can miss it.
Is a rapid test better than an at-home STD kit?
It depends on what you need. Most home kits mail your sample to a lab, so results take days. One FDA-authorized home test gives women results for chlamydia, gonorrhea and trichomoniasis in about 30 minutes. At our clinic, men can be tested too, you can add HIV and syphilis, and a doctor can treat you the same visit.
Will my rapid STD test show up on my insurance?
No. We never bill rapid tests to insurance. You pay at the office.
Can I get tested for STDs without symptoms?
Yes. Many STDs cause no symptoms; most people with chlamydia never notice any. Testing is the only way to know.
